Gackt
Gackt is an extremely popular Japanese musician. Born on July 4, his professional career started in 1995 when he joined the visual kei band, Malice Mizer. With Gackt as their vocalist, the popularity of Malice Mizer skyrocketed. Fans of the band adored their elaborate costumes and stage performances. Rumor has it that Gackt was asked to leave the band in 1999 when he tried to gain more creative control over the group. However, the official reasoning was personal reasons. Four months after his departure from Malice Mizer, Gackt released his first solo work, an extended single titled Mizerable. It took an entire year of hard work and illness before he released his first full-length album. That album, Mars, was released in April of 2000. From that point on, Gackt dedicated himself to the entertainment industry. Beyond music, he has also starred in movies and television series, as well as dedicating his voice to some animated projects. In 2006, Gackt not only provided the voice for Genesis in the Final Fantasy video game Dirge of Cerberus, he also did the motion capturing movements that would bring the character to life. Recently Gackt has joined up with Yoshiki (of X-Japan), Miyavi and Sugizo (of Luna Sea) to form a new group called S.K.I.N. While there hasn't been a lot of news about the band, they did perform a small set at the Anime Expo convention in Long Beach, CA on June 29, 2007. Gackt has also starred in the drama Fūrin Kazan as Uesugi Kenshin. While Gackt has had an extremely successful career up to this point, he has stated that he has no intentions of stopping just yet. He has plans for a large national tour of Japan and hopes to follow up his international releases with a world tour. That is definitely something that his fans are looking forward to. |
